October Leaves

  • The Japanese maple was loud and quiet at the same time. The scarlet and persimmon leaves stole the gaze of anyone wandering through the garden. The black, twisting branches looked like bolts of lightning that disappeared into shocks of red. Yet there was a peace to be found here too. The tree, gently bowed like a weeping willow, slowly released offerings to the wind. Paper cut outs, delicately curled, were sprinkled across the grass. (Portland. Oregon)
